"Intruder" is Numan's 18th solo album and the follow-up to 2017's "Roughshod: Songs From A Cleaved Earth". It reached #2 on the UK album charts and became his biggest commercial success in forty years. While "Savage" portrays the Earth every bit a dour wasteland where humanity and civilization take been mostly annihilated by the effects of global warming, "Intruder" tells an alternative story. It is a philosophical exploration of a possible time to come apocalypse: the planet can merely survive by wiping out its residents.

Welcome to the wasteland
The intro is like something out of an 80s sci-fi movie with cyborgs and wasteland scenery. Lyrically, you should feel affected correct away, considering a bittersweet accusation is diddled in your face. The opener 'Betrayed' is very calm and without audio-visual pressure level, but the words hit you like a knife.
'The Gift' searches for the right frequency in the intro! Followed by wobbling synths and an oriental sound, the song slowly builds up with what feels like a thousand different sounds. With the onset of the chorus, I feel the connection to the predecessor 'Savage (Songs From A Broken World)' for the get-go time. In other words, 'Gary Numan' has not reinvented the wheel with the album 'Intruder', which is a good thing. There is enough new development in the album, but we remain at home in learned and successful song structures and soundscapes.
The lyrical interrogation in the track 'I Am Screaming' begins with a carried, melancholic tune. A fantastic song that sounds clearer and therefore more than accessible than virtually of the songs on the anthology 'Intruder'. Maybe a recommendation if yous are looking for an "easy entry".

In terms of tonality and structure, the vocal 'Saints And Liars' is admittedly reminiscent of the neat hit 'My Name Is Ruin' taken from the predecessor 'Savage (Songs From A Cleaved Globe)'. Recycling a good vocal or sounds is completely legitimate and in this instance fantastically and uniquely realised. I beloved the synthesizer sounds and the crisp drums. The track is also pleasantly compressed to just 4 minutes and there are no unnecessary lengths. 'Gary Numan' gets to the point here with a uncomplicated and catchy melody and chorus. Releasing this vocal as a pre-release Unmarried was an excellent selection.

The rails 'Now And Forever' begins cold, metallic and threatening, like straight out of a Terminator movie. This is the last element of the puzzle for a dystopian soundtrack on the album.
